Halloween Games for Seniors: Free to Play or Print

The Halloween game on this site is the Halloween Word Search: pumpkins, lanterns, a cauldron and a scarecrow hidden in a grid of big letters. You can play it on a screen or press Print this puzzle for a large-print copy on paper. For a group, add a round of printed bingo and a read-aloud quiz. All three are free and run in a web browser, with nothing to install and no account to make.

The word list is October words rather than frightening ones: pumpkin, lantern, costume, candy, ghost, witch, broom, spider, moon, cider, scarecrow, cauldron, hayride and treat. Each puzzle hides some of them. The Easy grid is eight by eight with six words, Medium is ten by ten with eight, and Larger is twelve by twelve with ten.

On a screen you tap the first letter of a word and then its last letter, and the word is crossed off. There is no dragging and no timer, and the Hint button points to a word you have not found yet.

To print, press Print this puzzle. The printout is the grid in large letters across most of the page, with the word list underneath and none of the buttons. Press New puzzle before each print and every copy is a different grid, so a table of people can each have their own.

Halloween games for a group

Printed bingo cards

The bingo page prints a set of cards for a room: choose 6, 12 or 20 and press Print cards. Every card is different, one to a page in large print, and a caller’s sheet of all 75 numbers comes with them. The caller reads the numbers from the screen with Call the next number, which waits as long as the room needs. Small sweets make good markers in October.

A read-aloud quiz

Trivia With Answers is built for one person to read questions to everyone else. There are no answer buttons to tap. The reader asks the question, the room calls out answers, and Show answer puts the answer on screen in large letters with a sentence about it to read out. The questions are not Halloween ones. They cover classic movies, golden oldies, general knowledge, gardening and food, ten to a round.

Word search as a race

Print the same Halloween word search several times by printing before you press New puzzle, hand one copy to each table, and the first table to find every word wins.

Halloween games to play alone

The Halloween Word Search works just as well for one, on a phone, a tablet or a computer. Text size, the button marked Aa at the top right of every page, makes the letters larger. When it is done, Word Search has six other themes, and the printable puzzles page has more to print.
