Our promise to you

Most games websites make their money by getting in your way. We would rather keep a promise than squeeze a click. Here it is, in writing — and it holds on every single page of this site.

Never a pop-up over your game

Nothing will ever jump in front of the cards, cover the board, or play sound at you. If we show an ad to keep the site free, it is a small, clearly-marked box off to the side — never in your way, and never something you must close to keep playing.

Never a sign-up

No account. No password. No email address. You will never be asked to log in to play, and there is nothing to forget. Your preferences and progress are saved quietly on your own device — we never see them.

Never a timer on a puzzle

No clock counts down on any puzzle or card game. No move is scored against you, nothing is lost by thinking, and every one of them waits while you make the tea or take a call. Three arcade games are the exception and we would rather say so than let you find out: Maze Chase, Falling Blocks and Snake move on their own, the way those games always have.

Never a download

Nothing to install, update, or grant permissions to. Every game runs right in the web browser you already have — on a computer, an iPad, or any tablet. Open the page and play; that is the whole procedure.

Why we can promise this when others can't

Sites built around advertising revenue need you to see as many ads as possible — that is why the pop-ups, autoplay videos and sign-up walls keep coming back, no matter how much people hate them. This site is built the other way round: the game comes first, and everything else has to stay out of its way. If a small ad ever helps keep the lights on, it lives quietly at the edge of the page, clearly labelled — and every promise above still holds.

Where the promises stop

Two of these need a footnote, and a promise with a hidden exception is not worth much. Three arcade games move on their own: Maze Chase, Falling Blocks and Snake. They are the games people ask for by name, so they are here, but they run at their own pace and they do end. Every puzzle and card game on the site waits for you indefinitely.

And the Hint that explains its reasoning, and unlimited Undo, are ours — they are in the games we built. A dozen games here are well-made open-source ones we host so you do not have to hunt for them, and those come as their authors made them, with whatever help they chose to include. Every game page says which is which.

Hold us to it

If you ever find a page that breaks one of these promises, tell us and we will fix it: [email protected]. And if the promises are what you were looking for, the games are right this way — all of our free games, the daily puzzle, or a ready-made link you can set up for someone you love.
