Free Games Large-Card Solitaire for Seniors: Free, No Download
Go looking for a game of Solitaire and you will probably hit two problems: the cards are too small to read comfortably, and the site wants you to download an app or make an account before you can play a hand. For a game this familiar, that is too much fuss.
Every Solitaire here has big, high-contrast cards and the classic rules you already know, with nothing to install. You open the page and play.
Why big cards matter so much
Most free Solitaire sites cram a full deck onto the screen at once, which leaves each card tiny and the rank and suit in the corner hard to read at a glance. Mine are drawn large and bold, with red and black suits and a suit symbol as well as colour, so they are easy to tell apart if colour is hard to see. The whole board is designed to be read from a comfortable distance, and the Bigger cards button makes the cards larger still if you like.
How do I make Solitaire cards bigger?
Press Bigger cards, the button just above the board in my Klondike Solitaire. The cards grow, and the page remembers your choice for next time. If the board is then wider than your screen, slide it sideways. To make the writing on the page larger as well, open Text size (the button marked Aa at the top right of the page) and press A+ Bigger.
The classic: Klondike Solitaire
This is the Solitaire everyone pictures, the one that came free with every computer. Build the four foundation piles from Ace up to King, moving cards in alternating red and black. My large-card Klondike Solitaire uses click-to-move (no fiddly dragging), an always-on Hint, unlimited Undo, and an Auto-finish button for the end of a winning game.
More classic card games, all with big cards
- FreeCell: every card is visible from the start, so it is a game of patience and planning; almost every hand can be won.
- Spider Solitaire: build long runs from King down to Ace. Start with the one-suit version, which is the gentle one.
- TriPeaks: the easiest of the lot. Tap a card one higher or one lower than the pile.
- Pyramid: clear the pyramid by pairing cards that add up to 13.
- Hearts: the classic four-player trick game, against three computer opponents.
Nothing to download, on any device
Because these run right in your web browser, there is nothing to download and no account to make, on a computer, an iPad or an Android tablet. Just open the page. A tip on a tablet: open the game once, then use your browser’s Add to Home Screen so it gets its own icon like an app, with nothing installed.
